Paraplegia: Where does research stand today?

We were represented at yesterday's event at the SPZ in Nottwil with an information stand. The event took place for the second time since 2023. The topics were grouped into subject areas, which were presented in the following talks:

Can we heal?

  • New cell and stem cell studies in paraplegia (PD Dr. Carl Zipser)
  • Control of leg movements by the spinal cord (Prof. Dr. Karen Minassian)

Breathing, blood pressure, first reality

  • Treatment of blood pressure instability with epidural electrical stimulation (Dr. Léonie Asboth / Nadine Intering) 
  • Pneumonia: who is at risk and how could the risk be reduced? (Dr. Gabi Müller / Dr. Anja Raab)

What can I improve?

  • What potential for improvement is there for chronic spinal cord injury? (Dr. Edeny Baaklini / Sebastian Tobler)
  • Brain-spine interface for regaining arm and hand movements (Dr. Léonie Asboth / Nadine Intering)

At home

  • Sexual dysfunction in paraplegia and therapy options (Dr. Dr. Veronika Birkhäuser)
  • Work integration after spinal cord injury (Dr. Urban Schwegler)

New More is Possible “Community Flyers"

Our new “Community Flyers” are ready in time for the upcoming events. If you see an opportunity to distribute them to recruit new community members, you are welcome to order the desired number by  e-mail and we will send them to you by post. The flyers are available in German only for the moment but if there is a demand for other languages, additional language versions may be produced.

September - Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Awareness Month

Today is the first day of Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Awareness Month, which is recognized throughout September in the United States. September 3-9 is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week in Australia.

According to the World Health Organization, between 250,000 and 500,000 people suffer a spinal cord injury each year. No matter where you are in the world, we invite you to join us, learn more and spread the word!

We are raising awareness of this day for the first time today - also with an Instagram post:
